1 May, Archbishop Beovich retires.

1 May, Archbishop Gleeson becomes Archbishop of Adelaide.

1973
17 March, Bishop Philip Kennedy is consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of Adelaide.

1980
The statue of St Patrick by Leopoldine Mimovich is placed in the Cathedral.

1981
24 October, Archbishop Beovich dies.

1983
23 March, Bishop Kennedy dies.

2 September, following Archbishop Gleeson's illness, Archbishop Leonard Faulkner becomes Coadjutor Archbishop cum jure successions.

1985
19 June, Archbishop Gleeson retires as Archbishop.

19 June, Archbishop Faulkner succeeds Archbishop Gleeson as Archbishop of Adelaide.

1994
The St Joseph shrine is placed in the Cathedral. This is sculptured by Ben Van Zetten.

1996
The building of the tower is completed.

The bells are blessed on St Patrick's Day. They are installed in the tower before the dedication of the cathedral.

11 July, the Cathedral is dedicated.
