LOUD fence highlights abuse silence
A LOUD fence was created outside St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral last month as a sign of solidarity with all who have suffered directly and indirectly from child sexual abuse – the victims and survivors, their families and communities.
The fence also recognises the anxiety and trauma often experienced by survivors and their families when they view or pass places which are visibly Catholic. The bright coloured ribbons acknowledge their pain, are a sign of welcome and support and an indicator that the Catholic community of Adelaide stands with them.
The initiative coincided with the final hearing into the Catholic Church by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
