New Centacare director appointed

Archbishop of Adelaide Patrick O’Regan has announced the appointment of Sarah McRae as the new director of Centacare Catholic Family Services.

Ms McRae will commence the role in February next year, following the retirement of Dale West after 32 years of service to Centacare and the Archdiocese.

Archbishop O’Regan said Ms McRae would bring a wealth of experience to the position of director, coming from the Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN) where she currently holds the position of chief operating officer.

“Sarah’s leadership experience, values and client focused approach aligns well with the vision and mission of Centacare,” he said.

Ms McRae began at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital as a graduate nurse and has worked in clinical roles, management, education and research.

As Burns Unit nurse consultant for almost a decade, Ms McRae initiated the Aboriginal Burns Program and co-wrote the first Post Graduate Diploma in Burns Nursing for Australasia in partnership with Adelaide University.

She continued to progress through leadership positions within WCHN including the Advanced Nursing co-director of Paediatric Medicine.

Her work has been recognised with many awards including the Chief Executive Staff Recognition Award in 2006.

Mr West’s decision to retire, effective from January, was announced by the Archbishop on September 10.

Archbishop O’Regan commended his leadership, commitment and dedication to the works of Centacare and the life of the Archdiocese.

Centacare employs 565 staff to deliver 74 community services to more than 34,000 South Australians from 34 sites across metropolitan and regional areas.
